"The Apple-crunchers" is the literal translation of French "Les Croqueurs de pommes"®, a non-profit French organization also called "The National Society of voluntary amateurs for the preservation of regional fruit varieties facing extinction" (L'Association Nationale des amateurs bénévoles pour la sauvegarde des variétés fruitières régionales en voie de disparition).

The society is divided into numerous sections throughout the country.

The aims of the society are:

- to look for and to preserve the fruit genetic heritage

- to promote deserving fruits varieties

- to inform and educate the public
